Board Member's Ominous Statement (Poll)

FSUSD Board Member Perry Polk sees gloom next year, is he right?

The state budget clouds on the horizon may be back next year, Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District Board Member Perry Polk said to a school public that was clearly agitated over the potential loss of one or two schools in the district.

In the end they spared an elementary school and closed only Sullivan Middle School.

This year, the district contemplated suspending kindergarten, maybe even closing a high school but later backed off to instead go with a plan to close an elementary school and a middle school.

Then they backed off further with the help of union and management employee concessions. But the pain of closing Sullivan may not be the end of the road, Polk said.

"One thing that worries me is next year, the state budget is not that much better," he said. "It's really, really nice to say you need to look at revenue."

Polk was referrign to the idea that lcoal businesses and the community would be able to make up millions in lost state money to keep schools going.
