The Solano County coroner's office has identified a man killed in a crash in Fairfield on Sunday morning as 27-year-old Lavon Whitworth.

A California Highway Patrol sergeant said Whitworth was driving a two-door 1993 Lexus west on Interstate Highway 80 east of Air Base Parkway when the crash happened around 8 a.m.

Whitworth lost control of the Lexus and it flipped over and ended up wrapped around a tree on the right side of the road, CHP Sgt. Jason Hekker said.

A tow truck pulled the Lexus away from the tree, and the Fairfield Fire Department cut off the roof and passenger door and removed Whitworth from the vehicle, Hekker said.

Whitworth, a Fairfield resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

At least four witnesses who stopped at the scene said the Lexus had sped past their cars at more than 100 mph shortly before the crash, Hekker said.

It's unknown if alcohol was a factor in the accident, he said.
