Need A New Career? Go To Solano College Career Education Fair!

The event will be held on the Fairfield Campus, 4000 Suisun Valley Road on Sunday, May 6, 2012 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm

Students and community members interested in discovering more about the career education and training opportunities at Solano Community College are invited to attend the free Career Education Fair- Learn! Do! Earn$. The event will be held on the Fairfield Campus, 4000 Suisun Valley Road on Sunday, May 6, 2012 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Career degree and certificate programs will be showcased through demonstrations and hands-on activities.

Dr. Jowel Laguerre, Superintendent- President commented, “In this difficult employment environment having access to a good career is critical for high school graduates and adults looking for retraining opportunities.  I am delighted that the College is working to provide information and a close look at the multiple career training opportunities that we offer. We welcome potential students, parents, educators, employers and the general public to come and see what SCC has to offer."

With the exception of a small budget for advertising, this event is funded by Career Education faculty and generous sponsors. Sponsors as of this date include: PG&E, KUIC, The Reporter, The Daily Republic, Martin’s Metal Fabrication, Medic Ambulance, Jamba Juice, Cordelia Fire Department, State Department of Corrections, US Coast Guard, Ranesco, Meyer Corporation, Timeline Media, AirGas, The Paton Group, Solano County Office of Education, Solano Signs, Solano County Sheriff’s Office, and Cordelia Cenario’s Pizza.

In addition to enjoying free popcorn and prizes, visitors can participate in activities including: crime scene investigation, robot demonstrations, hair and make-up tips, professional photography, try your hand at AutoCad and 3D printing, auto dent pulling, browse a car show, earn a free typing certificate, design a website, CPR, virtual welding, medical simulators, tour a Medic Ambulance, Cordelia fire truck, Coast Guard patrol boat and Solano Sheriff’s tactical equipment. Meet representatives from the California Department of Corrections, visit the nursing skills lab, tour the biotech lab, examine a working jet engine, tour the theater to see how magic is made and much more. Professional illustrators and SCC faculty, Ray Salmon (The Little Man) and Terry Shoemaker (Marvel & DC Comics) will be available to offer tips and advice. Journalist Deborah Graham will offer advice on social media marketing and self-publishing. College financial aid and on-site counseling will also be available.

New this year! Passport to Prizes. K-12 teachers and youth group leaders are invited to download and print the K-12/Youth Career Fair Passport from www.scc-careerttech.com . The teacher or leader who has the most participants on May 6 will win a $100 gift card. Students who participate will be entered in a drawing to win a $25 gift card.  

Prizes this year include airplane rides from Aeronautics, a day of beauty from Cosmetology, cookware from Meyer Corp, a 105 piece toolset and more.  In addition to a free spin on the KUIC prize wheel from 10-2, a second version of the Passport will be available to visitors wishing to win prizes.
