“We have a traditional and historic blacksmith shop at Rush Ranch and there are several modern day blacksmiths who practice the traditional way to blacksmith,” said Natalie DuMont, volunteer and outreach coordinator for Solano Land Trust. “Every third Saturday at least one of them is out there in the shop with the fire going and he's there pounding the iron.”

She added the blacksmith shop is interactive and those in attendance can get the chance to actually pound the metal and even make a nail to take home.

"It's really special because it's such a dying art.” she said.

Also from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. thre is an interpretive display of Native American tools and decorations.

“That is by a Native American named Little Bear,” DuMont said. “He comes out with a table displaying tools and decorations, most of which he's made himself. So they are hand crafted and are made out of wood, bone or stone.”

For even more fun, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., you might want to take a horse-drawn wagon ride that is wheelchair accessible.

“That is put on by an organization that we partner with called Access Adventures,” she said. “The ride is for anyone but it is really special for those with limited mobility. Whether they are in a wheelchair or have other limitations making it difficult for them to get around, this is an opportunity for them to be on a horse-drawn wagon and to experience that.”

There is no charge for the events and no RSVP is necessary. Timing and activities vary month to month so be sure to check www.solanolandtrust.org for a schedule.
