Lawler House: Wearable Art And Jewelry

Lawler House Gallery presents art that you can wear

For one day only, the will host its first ever New Spring Collection of Jewelry and Wearable Art Trunk Show Artists’ Reception on Saturday March 5.

More than 10 artists will participate in the exhibit and each crafter will bring unique, hand-made items to view and sell. Guests can expect to see exotic hand beaded necklaces and bracelets made with semi-precious stones by Pam Smeenk, personally designed garments as well a design book for wearable art by Karen Boutte and ethnic creations by Margeret Linderman, who specializes in textile design, fabrication and pattern making, according to the Lawler House Gallery press release.

Smeenk works closely with the Lawler House Gallery and usually has a few pieces in the gallery’s gift shop, according to Lawler House Gallery staff member Robin Rossi. Making jewelry has been Smeenk’s passion and she gets much of her inspiration from movies, Smeenk said.

“I’m influenced by ethnic clothing and by everything cultural,” Smeenk said. “I’m very much into semi-precious stones and flame-worked glass; more costume and collectible type jewelry.”

Other exhibiting “Art to Wear” artists are Kirk Bragdon, Jane Corich, Thane Riggs, Todd Lovett, Ann Jacobs, Jan Radesky, and Egg Craft Designer artist Jackie Wills, according to the press release.

The event will be held at the Lawler House Gallery, 718 Main St. from noon to 5 p.m. There is no admission and is open to the public. Refreshments will be served during the event.
