Suisun City Library to Host Musical "The Wizard of Oz"

National Library Week to be celebrated with lions, and tigers and bears

will be celebrating National Library Week this April with a special performance by Solano Youth Theater. The youth performance group will be presenting “The Wizard of Oz,” Thursday, April 14, at 6:30 p.m.

“They’re going to be coming and doing some selections from their musical show here…” said Julia Oglesby, children’s librarian. “It’s a great (event) for family, good for younger kids to come to, as well.”

Oglesby said the performance will not only be in celebration of National Library Week, but to build excitement about the award-winning theater group’s May performance of the musical at the Campus Theater at Solano Community College, directed by Holli Hornlien.

“The Wizard of Oz” performance will also be making its rounds to other Solano County libraries including Vacaville on April 13, Rio Vista on April 26, and John F. Kennedy on April 29.

First sponsored in 1958 by the American Library Association, National Library Week began as a way to raise awareness of library resources and services. This year, however, Solano County libraries will be celebrated all month long. Here is a list of other events in the area you can expect to see in celebration of the occasion.
