Suisun City weekend Planner August 26-28

From the Poyntlyss Sistars stirring up the Waterfront and an Earthquake Festival to Dixon's Wine Stroll, an outdoor movie starring Yogi Bear, and Sunday Jazz starring 2nd Planet, we've got you covered this weekend.

Friday:

The Poyntlyss Sistars offer lively dance sets and a blend of musicianship, glamour and choreography that both dancers and audiences find wonderfully entertaining. Since its formation in the mid 80s, the group has evolved into its present format of three frontline vocalists accompanied by lead guitar, bass, drums, saxophone and keyboards. The band delivers energetic renditions of favorite hits of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Come on over and don’t forget to wear your dancin’ shoes.

If you go: The concerts run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on at Main Street and Solano Street in Suisun City.

Friday:

Join the Winters Community for the 2011 Earthquake Festival. Come for the great food, arts and crafts, street vendors, rockin' music and street dancing that goes well into the night. There will be bounce houses for the kids as well as performances and other fun activities. This Main Street fair commemorates the rise of the city of Winters out of the Great Earthquake of 1892 and if you've never attended an Earthquake Festival, here's your chance.

If you go: This free event is from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Main Street in downtown Winters. 

 

Saturday:

The Downtown Dixon Business Association’s (DDBA) 9th Annual Wine & Art Stroll is Dixon's class-act event starting in the Women's Improvement Club Park this year and continuing throughout the downtown core along North First Street and including businesses on A, B, and Jackson Street. Some of the wineries pouring will be: Remridg Wines, Dixon Aviation Wine, Satiety Winery, Domain Chandon Champagne, DBI Wines, Turkovich Wines, Pedroncelli Vineyard, Teaderman Wine, Laird Vineyards, Sierra Vista Winery, Regusci Vineyards, Spelletich Cellars, Boeger Winery, Fox Brook Wines,Green Valley Vineyards, Purple Pearl Vineyards, Berryessa Gap, Jess Jones Vineyards, V-Twin Vineyards, and Carvalho Winery. Additionally, live music will be playing throughout the evening at North First and A Street. Don’t miss this fun event.

If you go: Advance tickets can be purchased for $20 by clicking here and via the 'I Love Dixon' tab or $25 on the day of the event and includes a commemorative wine glass as well as a map of where participating wineries are pouring. The event is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. beginning at Women's Improvement Club Park. It’s still looking like summer (even if the kids are back in school).Come see Yogi Bear outdoors on Harbor Bring a blanket or low-slung chair for lawn seating, your favorite snacks, and enjoy the weekly show.

Yogi Bear (PG) Everyone's favorite pic-a-nic basket-stealing bear comes to the big screen in "Yogi Bear," a new adventure. Dan Aykroyd stars as the voice of Yogi, Jellystone Park's notorious troublemaker, and Justin Timberlake as the voice of Boo Boo, Yogi's faithful pal and co-conspirator in his never-ending schemes to separate park visitors from their lunches.

If you go: The free movie starts at dusk (about 8:30 p.m.) on Harbor Plaza at Main Street and Solano Street in Suisun City.

 

Sunday:

It’s jazz, jazz, jazz.  Yup, enjoy some more great tunes on the shores of Suisun Marina this afternoon.  This week’s music comes courtesy of 2nd Planet.

The band specializes in the styles of contemporary jazz, rock, r&b and funk. The Northern California based band consists of four talented musicians who use their creative gifts to electrify their audiences with their original tunes.  Bring your family, friends or church group to the Waterfront District for an afternoon of great music and picnicking.

If you go:  The free concerts are from 3 p.m. to 5 pm. On Harbor Plaza at Main Street and Solano Street in Suisun City.
