Tickets Still Available for Dixon May Fair Concerts and Demolition Derby

There are still many seats available in the Dixon May Fair’s arena for the three concerts, one comedy show and demolition derby that are all scheduled this week.

The arena will play host to several big name stars for the 137th annual Dixon May Fair, and all will keep thousands of fans on their feet. Hip Hop star Snoop Dogg and special guest One Block Radius will kick off the fair’s entertainment with the Wednesday concert.

The English Beat and the Romantics will keep the crowd dancing on Thursday, and country stars Kellie Pickler and Phil Vassar will co-headline Friday’s concert.

Larry the Cable Guy, a nationally known comedian and actor, will keep the crowd laughing Saturday along with special guest Reno Collier. Then, overnight, the arena will be transformed to a giant, muddy track for the annual demolition derby on Sunday, which has proven to be a Mother’s Day tradition for many area families.

Tickets for the concerts are now available at the Dixon May Fair Box Office, 655 South First St. in Dixon, at all TicketMaster Outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com, or charge by phone at (800) 745-3000. Every concert ticket includes admission to the fair.

Tickets for Sunday’s demolition derby can be purchased for $22 each at the Dixon May Fair Box Office. Every derby ticket also includes admission to the fair.

Tickets for both Snoop Dogg and Larry the Cable Guy are on sale for $75 and $45 reserved, and $35 general admission. Tickets for the Pickler and Vassar concert are $65 and $45 for reserved and $29 general admission. Reserved seat tickets for The English Beat and The Romantics are $25 and general admission seating is $20.

Snoop Dogg, who will soon release his 11th studio album, released his debut album, “Doggystyle” in 1992. Since then, Snoop Dogg’s music has been played on the stadium stage, the big screen and mobile phones across the country. His many hits include “What’s My Name?”, “Gin and Juice”, “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “Young, Wild & Free”.

Hailing from working-class Birmingham, England, Dave Wakeling and The English Beat entered the music scene in 1979. The band managed to fuse their respective musical influences – soul, reggae, pop and punk – into a unique sound that is also highly danceable. The English Beat became one of the most popular and influential bands of the British Ska movement, achieving great success in their home country and charting multiple singes into the top 10.

The Romantics are one of the Detroit’s best exports from the 1980’s. The group is best known for hits that include “Talking In Your Sleep” and “What I Like About You”.

With his signature catchphrase, “Git-R-Done:”, Larry the Cable Guy is selling out theaters and arenas across the United States. Most recently, Larry has been on tour with Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engvall. He was also part of the successful Blue Collar Comedy Tour, which grossed over $15 million. The success of the tour led to Blue Collar Comedy Tour, The Movie, which premiered on Comedy Central in 2003 and at the time, was the highest rated movie in the channel’s history.

Pickler finished sixth on the fifth season of the popular American Idol competition and signed with 19 Recordings/BNA Records. Her debut set, Small Town Girl, launched with the hit “Red High Heels”, and she continued to earn fans with hits like “I Wonder” and “Things That Never Cross a Man’s Mind”. Her self-titled sophomore album included the songs, “Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful”, “Best Days of Your Life”, and “Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You”.  Her new album is titled 100 Proof.

Vassar’s resume boasts numerous hits for artists that include Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw, Jo Dee Messina and Collin Raye. In his self-titled debut album, Vassar took his seat as country’s leading piano man with the success of songs like “Carlene”, “Just Another Day in Paradise”, and “Six-Pack Summer”. Altogether, he has released six albums that have included the hits “American Child”, “That’s When I Love You”, “In a Real Love”, “I’ll Take That as a Yes (The Hot Tub Song)", “Last Day of My Life” and “Love is a Beautiful Thing”.

Other attractions and entertainment scheduled this week include an array of performers on three different stages, carnival rides and games, a hog calling contest, the first annual art auction, the diaper derby, the May Fair Royalty Court competition, pig races, the Solano Steamroller Smackdown,  and well over 400 sheep, goats, steers, swine, and other animals.

The Dixon May Fair will open Thursday, May 10 and entertain thousands of visitors through Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 13. The fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on all four days.
