Police issued 44 citations to juveniles in violation of the daytime curfew ordinance in a sweep conducted during school hours on Tuesday in Fairfield, police said.

The sweep was conducted in partnership with the Fairfield Suisun Unified School District. Most of the daytime curfew violators were located and released into the custody of their respective schools. Their parents were then notified of the citation, police said.

According to police, juveniles who loiter about the city in violation of the curfew are more likely to become both victims of crime and to commit crimes of opportunity.

Of the 44 juveniles issued citations on Tuesday, two juveniles were found with marijuana in their possession, two juveniles were found in possession of alcohol and one juvenile had a no-bail warrant for their arrest.

Police said the use of the daytime curfew ordinance helps to prevent crime during school hours and helps prevent youth from exposure to negative influences, such as alcohol and drug use, and gang involvement.
