Ace Hardware Closes in Suisun City; What Should Replace It?

Let us know in the comments section what you think should fill the vacant lot where the appliance chain used to be.

A Suisun City Patch reader recently e-mailed Patch with the news that the 252 Sunset Ave Ace Hardware was closing.

"The Ace Hardware was closed today and a "lost our lease" sign was out front!" said reader Debbie W.

Calls to the hardware store went unanswered and the voice recording did not allow for a message to be left. It's still unclear why the hardware store may have allegedly lost its lease.

Representatives from CenterVest Capital, a San Luis Obispo-based real estate investment company, overseeing the leasing and property management of the location did not return calls either. According to its website, the company specializes in the acquisition, asset management and redevelopment of institutional retail establishments.

With the location seemingly about to close, the question now becomes what should replace it? Suisun City Patch readers, make it count and let us know what you think should replace the Ace Hardware location in the comments below.

Something is in the wind about that strip mall. Munchies is gone, the Animal Clinic is gone. Block Buster is gone the whole other end of the mall is a ghost town. A while back all the businesses back in that area were moaning about the skyrocketing rent and now they are gone. Empty storefronts just doesn't sound profitable.

As long as they dont make it an In Shape! They seem to be buying up every empty lot in Solano County!

Strip mall vacancies have been increasing over the years. The ecomomy is probably the biggest factor, but big box stoarres and an increase in online sales has also contributed. This years vacancies have dropped for the first time in years. That's a good sign. We're fortunate that Raley's is still there. Many strip malls have lost their anchors.

I agree with all of the above. I read the note on their door a cpl days ago and it says "closed indefinitely." Possible something is in the works. I hope we don't lose yet another business in Suisun. If they have to move I'd hope they'd look at marina center. That'd be a GREAT store to go there! It's already familiar and frequented. It would be something to draw people there, helping the other businesses in the center.

In the past 21 years that I have lived in Suisun City, this is the third ACE Hardware store to go out of business there. It seems that the economy has once again taken a nice store from this community. Perhaps it is the thought that WALMART would be taking their customers away, but I think that whoever owns that strip mall needs to consider that now they have nothing but an empty space with no income generated from it. I doubt if the Marina Shopping Center will ever fill their nice new stores either. It is in the wrong traffic pattern to begin with. I can get what I need in Fairfield and Vacaville stores.

Wow, that's really sad to see them go. I try to shop in Suisun as much as possible and they were my go-to place for all sorts of things. Their staff was always friendly and helpful; they'll be missed too.

I'm really saddened by this - I loved that store! I found out that Ace closed and that Fresh Choice had closed all in the same day and I'm still reeling!! Very sad. I'm not sure what should go there.

I have always went to ace to either get in and out faster then home depot or when i needed parts that home depot doesnt carry, such as special fasteners, screws and unique hardware items. No matter what they replace it with, it doesnt matter because ace hardware was actually something that we needed. Im sure they will put in something for the section 8's.
