Company To Offer Nature Tours Of Suisun Marsh

Delta Ecotours is working with city to make Suisun Waterfront its home this summer

If you have ever wanted to explore the Suisun Marsh and learn about its wildlife and history you’ll want to check out Delta Ecotours. Starting in June the company that specializes in natural history boat tours plans to stop in Suisun City.

“Were coming out for the weekend of June 11 and 12, and then we’re coming out for July and August,” said Jeff Hart, tour boat captain.

Hart said the tours will leave the Suisun Waterfront and will explore the Suisun slough. He will also explain the different types of wildlife and plants in and around the water as well as the history of the surrounding area. Hart, who has been offering nature tours for more than eight years, said he thinks they will further enhance the attractiveness of the waterfront area.

“I think it’s a really good relationship that we can bring our proven venue to the Suisun Marsh and bring it to people and clients that really haven’t seen it,” said Hart. “Plus, the establishments are already there, the restaurants, coffee shops, gift shops, hotel. It’s a really great opportunity to bring the friendly business atmosphere at the same time giving people the great opportunity to have fun and learn about the natural heritage in their backyard.”

A two-hour tour typically costs $35 for adults and $15 for children. Hart said details are still being worked out with the city and there is a possibility that shorter tours might be offered for less money or longer tours for more money.

An April 5 Suisun City City Council staff report said an agreement between Delta Ecotours and the city could add 10 percent of the Suisun Marsh tour earnings to the city’s general fund.  Additionally, “The operation of a tour boat would assist the City in meeting its marketing and entertainment goals for downtown Suisun City and it would introduce many people to the wonders of the Suisun Marsh.”
