Eco-Delight Coffee To Open Saturday

Long-awaited coffee roaster will offer coffee free to the public on its first day

Come Saturday afternoon, downtown Suisun City residents will have a long-awaited coffee roaster in their midst, one they can watch roasting the beans.

For El Salvadoran Guillermo Moran and his Costa Rican business partner Rodolfo Bendig, Eco-Delight Coffee’s opening this Sunday in downtown Suisun City’s Harbor Square is the realization of a dream.

At 4 p.m. Saturday, Eco-Delight will open to the public with free coffee of a kind not tasted at Starbucks or many other cafés. Eco-Delight’s coffee is roasted milder — with the same amount of caffeine in it, Moran said — so it comes out sweeter than typical American, French and Italian roasts.

Moran’s family has long been in the coffee business, he said, either growing or roasting it or both. Moran said he wanted to come back to the country where he was educated — he received his master’s degree from the Wharton School of Business in Pennsylvania — and especially to Suisun, where he saw opportunity and what he said was support from city officials and the community.

“We are really, really excited,” he said. “And you know for us it has been a long dream that we’ve had. …The people of Suisun City have been very supportive.”

At 2 p.m. Moran and Bendig will invite special guests to watch the coffee roaster fire up, including Suisun City Mayor Pete Sanchez, the El Salvador Consul General Ana Valenzuela, and commanders from Travis Air Force Base. Of course, giant scissors will be on hand for the ceremonial ribbon cutting to launch the business.

Moran was even made an honorary commander of the 615th Contingency Response Wing as a way to bring together the business community and the base.

Workers are putting the finishing touches on Eco-Delight’s interior and roaster this week. Once it’s all done, Moran said he plans to open the store for its normal 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. hours on Sunday, and each day of the week thereafter.

On special occassions, Moran said he will host coffee tastings, showcasing beans grown in different parts of Central America.
