Suisun Valley Comes to Suisun City

Part two of a peek of which vineyards will be at the Art, Wine and Chocolate Festival

Yesterday we let you know about three of the seven wineries that will be at the seventh annual Art, Wine and Chocolate Festival, hosted by the Suisun City waterfront Business Improvement District.

The event will feature wines from some of the most well known, as well as some up-and-coming, wineries of Suisun Valley and Solano County. Today we feature the remaining four: Wooden Valley Winery, Ledgewood Creek Winery, Purple Pearl Vineyards, and Le Grande Courtage.

Wooden Valley Winery: Established in 1933, Wooden Valley is comprised of three generations of winemaking.

Located on Suisun Valley Road just past Larry's Produce, Wooden Valley’s vision for the future is to establish Suisun Valley as a world class wine region. Wine is completely made and bottled at the site and selections include Chardonnay, Saugvignon Blanc, White Gamay, Riesling, Muscat Canelli, Cabernet Saugvignon, Pinot Noit, Zinfandel, Miscela, and Zinfandel Port. Luxury labels are also available.

Ledgewood Creek Winery: Though this winery released their first wine in 2001, their vineyards have been supplying wine grapes to wineries for more than a decade before that time. Several grape varieties are accessible because of the rich climate of the region and make it possible to produce quality wines in fields that once operated as pear orchards.

Wineries around the world seek the expertise of Ledgewood Creek Winery winemakers. Knowledgeable and friendly staff serve the award-winning wines that include Bourdeaux, Burgandy Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Chardonnay, Grenache Rose, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Rhône Blends.

Purple Pearl Vineyards: Located within the agricultural community of Dixon, three miles off the I-80 freeway near Peddrick’s Produce, Purple Pearl Vineyards is a small, family owned winery that began in February of 2004. The winery currently produces less than 2,500 cases a year.

Wine grapes are grown, developed into wine in cellars, and bottled all on site at the vineyard. Owners invite visitors to their location they describe as “just off the beaten track to feel like a hidden treasure"

Wines served include Muscat Blanc, White Merlot, Chardonnay, Viognier, Muscat Dessert, Red Table Wine, Private Reserve Merlot , Barrel Select Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Le Grande Courtage: The only champagne featured in the festival, this French champagne maker began collaborating with winemakers from America just a couple years ago to share the wisdom and key to great sparkling wine, developing beautiful relationships along the way.

Their signature champagne, Blanc de Blancs Brut, is an elegant sparkler of which Le Grande Courage’s goal was to create the “perfect balance of fruit, acidity, and sweetness along with fine bubbles and a crisp light character. Aromas include Granny Smith apples, honeysuckle, strawberry, and toasted brioche all within a blend of Chardonnay,  Chenin Blanc and Colombard.

The Art, Wine & Chocolate Festival will be Saturday, October 1 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is free. Wine tasting is $20 and will include a commemorative wine glass and 8 – 1 oz. pours. Wine shop tents will offer bottles for sale; full glasses will also be available.
