In-Shape To Open In November

The fitness center doing remodeling in the old Albertsons building is almost complete

For months Suisun City residents wondered what was to become of the old Albertson’s building at the Sunset Shopping Center after construction started on the space that had been vacant for years.

News soon followed that Stockton-based fitness facility, In-Shape Health Clubs would be moving into the building.

Inching closer to being finished, In-Shape plans to open on November 1, if all goes as planned.

“It is almost complete,” said Mark Hansen, manager. “We currently have the interior done. The pool is still being dug, most of the paint and the carpet is about to be put in. So we’re getting close. “

Those looking to workout can visit the preview workout center to the right of the under-construction building. The preview center includes 12 cardio machines, and 12 weight machines.

“That’s right next door to Subway, in between Subway and the old Albertsons,” Hansen said. "That’s where people can make an appointment with me or my staff, they can come in review the layout of the facility and I can go over the amenities and the details.”

Though the preview center does not have as much as the permanent fitness center will have -- classes, for example, are not offered at the preview center but will be at the permanent one — there are some advantages to signing up for a membership now. Primarily, you will be able to work out now, instead of later. Equally, if not more important, you will be able to do it for less money.

“Currently we’re under what we call phase 2 charter membership prices. We have a phase three, phase four and then the grand opening prices. So the sooner you join, the less expensive it is going to be.”

The new facility will offer aerobic classes, including the increasingly popular Zumba, turbo kick, and cardio Salsa. There will also be cedar wood sauna and steam rooms, child care, and a pool– all of the things you might expect a state of the art fitness center to have. Hansen, who has been working for In-Shape for seven years, said there is more to an In-Shape Health Club than what gyms typically offer.

“I usually tell people there are two kinds of places to join,” he said. “There are gyms with cardio and weights and that kind of environment and there are family health clubs. We’re considered a family health club because both older people and younger people feel comfortable coming to our facility.”
