“We really try to promote the health aspect of being fit,” said Shepherd.” In being stronger and being self sufficient so that they're not comparing themselves to somebody else, they're comparing themselves to where they

Still the club is not immune to competition. Recently, opened across the street and there have been rumors that Lady Fitness would be closing. Though Shepherd denounces the rumor, she does admit competition comes with the territory and she believes Lady Fitness will see continue to stand out from the rank and file as a top choice for many women.

“We’re here to take care of our ladies and we want to take care of them,” said Shepherd

Shepherd said ages range from young women working on high school credits to seniors looking stay active. The oldest member is 92 years old. Members like the idea of working out in a comfortable environment where they can be familiar with staff, she said.

“Our average staff member has been with us over 10 years,” Shepherd said. “Their committed to getting women the results.”

For years, Lady Fitness has not only expressed their commitment to fitness for women, but has also made a commitment to help those that may not be as fortunate. Every year the fitness center raises money and collects donations for charitable organizations like St. Jude’s Hospital, raising more than $10,000 in the last six years. They also collect canned goods for Mission Solano during the holiday season. This year the fitness center has collected enough to fill three barrels.

"We want to make sure we’re a part of what’s going on. It’s our community,” Shepherd said.
