Salvation Army Welcome Center Opens

Welcome center allows public to see updates on Kroc Center construction and apply for roughly 100 positions at the center

The Salvation Army's newly-opened Welcome Center at the Heritage Shopping Center on Sunset Avenue kicked off a grand-opening celebration Monday with the public and local dignitaries Monday morning, offering refreshment, employment opportunities and a detailed look at what the costs of membership at the center will be.

The event highlighted the Kroc Center's progress on the land aquisition and permtiing front, with Salvation Army spokeswoman Stefanie Vrapi saying only a building permit is left for the Salvation Army to get before it can launch full speed into construction.

Pre-construction estimates have pegged the completion date sometime this fall.

"We have done most of the demolition to the existing building to the point where we can't do any more without the building permit," Vrapi said.

The Kroc Center will also be a boon to local employment as Vrapi said the center will employ roughly 100 full and part-time positions.

Suisun City Council members, the city manager and Fairfield Mayor Harry Price stopped by the Welcome Center Monday morning, as well as dozens of job seekers and people eager to get a membership.

There are two memberships levels, Silver and Gold and each level's cost is based on age.

A silver membership grants access to exercise equipment, the pool and the rock-climbing wall as well as other standard amenities. Gold membership adds child care and exercise class access.

For example, a silver adult (age 19-61) membership costs $29 monthly, while a gold membership for the same age range costs $39. Families up to five people can buy a membership for $57 - $69 monthly. All memberships require a one-time $50 processing fee.

Visit the Welcome Center for more membership details and pricing.
