Shared Spoon Offers A "Winter Wonderland" Of Treats

Vendors from Shared Spoon to offer special holiday treats event

This month is celebrating one year of business success and inviting people to its “Winter Wonderland” on Dec. 10. The affair is meant to bolster support for the kitchen’s 23 vendors, while giving visitors a taste of what is created there.

“Everything that they make they’re going to have specially packed up for the holidays,” said Jody Anselmo, owner.

Anselmo began Shared Spoon — located at 301 Main Street next to — to give those in the food industry, or looking to break into it, a place to rent out, and in some cases, test out their model. Businesses such as Mille’s Biscottis, Big Mama’s BBQ Sauce, Custom Cookie Creations, Let’s Go Nuts, Citrus & Herbs Catering, Obessive Cookie Disorder (OCD), and Depot Dinners each use Shared Spoon’s kitchen space to create their specialties and will be selling their creations next Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“All our vendors are going to be out,” Anselmo said. “We’re tenting the parking lot off and they’re going to have all stuff for the holidays. It’s going to be like a little winter bazar.”

You can expect vendors to have just about every item that is available at Shared Spoon for purchase: cakes, pies, pot pies, cookies, biscotti, jams, barbeque sauces, vegan desserts, and more. The event will also give businesses like Depot Dinners, who will not be selling dinners but will give out information, an opportunity to tell people more about what they do.

“Every Wednesday, we make a hot meal, usually a casserole or maybe soup, pasta, salad and a little sweet treat for dessert,” said Kathy Dukowitz.

Dukowitz began working with the owner of Depot Dinners and Anselmo’s sister, Melody Griffin, two months ago. The two had known each other from high school, and Dukowitz, who also does work as an artist, painted the artwork on the walls of Shared Spoon. Prior to working with Griffin, Dukowitz said she wanted to do something new.

“I just needed a change, both my kids are out of the house now and I had all the time in the world and it just presented itself and it was a perfect fit,” she said.

Depot Dinners chooses its meals based partly on what is in season, Dukowitz said. They support local businesses such as Larry’s Produce and look to offer ingredients that are as fresh as possible. They also use desserts from other Shared Spoon vendors. This month they are planning to serve rigatoni, pulled pork, shepherd’s pie, and chilli with cornbread.

Dukowitz likes that the meals offer a good alternative to fast food for many of the families. A typical Wednesday night order is $30 and feeds a family of four. She also likes that they look out for charities to support as well. Each week they donate 20% of their proceeds to a local organization, Dukowitz said.

“We like to give back and its actually nice to be able to do that,” she said.

“Winter Wonderland,” will be held on Saturday, December 10, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in front of Shared Spoon at 301 Main St.
