Walmart Will Open New Store in Suisun City in 2014

The 177,000-square-foot mega-retailer will bring as many as 300 new jobs to Suisun City, officials say.

Walmart has started preliminary site work for a brand new store, which could open as early as 2014, company officials announced Wednesday.

A sign on Petersen Road prompted one Suisun City Patch reader to notify editors of the imminent development, noting potential job growth as well.

"This will bring a lot of jobs to the citizens of our city," said reader David Casey.

Indeed, the 177,000-square-foot mega-store will bring approximately 300 new full- and part-time positions to Suisun City, said Walmart spokeswoman Delia Garcia.

"We will be hiring for all positions throughout the store including hourly, supervisory, and management," Garcia said.

According to Garcia, the Walmart Supercenter will offer customers the one-stop shopping for general merchandise shoppers have grown to expect as well as a full line of low-price groceries.

The corporate retailer will offer customers both national, regional, and private label brands as well as local produce selections.

"We are excited to open a store in Suisun and offer customers an option for affordable merchandise and fresh groceries," Garcia said.

Garcia noted only preliminary grading of the property has begun and no construction timeline has been finalized.

The news of this latest Walmart development comes on the heels of news employees of the world's largest retailer may strike this upcoming Black Friday. According to a recent Washington Post story, the workers are planning the rebellion, citing the long work hours Black Friday brings coupled with disparate incentive.
