Hey Suisun, Welcome To My Blog And Happy Mother's Day

I'm like you. When gassing-up I allow myself an extra half hour for the line at the AMPM station. I like to go to Edwards Theater, watch the Giants and the A's with family and friends.

About me: I am just like you. I live in Suisun and experience the same increase in gas and food prices and soon enough my water bill. I use Highway 12 during commute hours and most of the time Railroad, Sunset, Pintail, Walters and Air Base Parkway are traffic free. When gassing-up I allow myself an extra half hour for the line at the AMPM station. I support my local businesses and go to our library for DVDs, CDs, books and events.

For my movies I go to the Edwards Theater and this weekend Thor 3D opens. My friends, family and I support our local sports teams. This weekend the Giants return home to face the Rockies. Go Giants … And the A's are away against the Royals. Go A's …. And this weekend we have the Dixon May Fair. On Sunday we celebrate Mother’s Day, which makes for a very busy weekend in Suisun and the Bay Area.

I will be writing about city hall, our schools, local businesses, events, the people of Suisun and how to make a good city better.

This blog is a new beginning for me and my New Year’s resolution was my fresh start. With almost half of 2011 behind us, I thought a good place to start would be at the beginning by presenting my New Year's resolution as an introduction.

I wrote this after the November election, wondering if it's right to just disappear after the campaign; to abandon the reasons I ran for Mayor. I felt the need to address this issue and what better way than in a New Year's resolution.

Now that it’s a new year and the campaigns over
Do candidates disappear because of tradition or disinterest
How do I pursue the changes I was so passionate about
What community activities will I involve myself in
How will I express myself or will I
How will I connect and play with others
How can I connect with local and state officials
How will I connect with my fellow citizens
Thru bartering or some form of legal tender
Will I attend my local city council and commission meetings
And how will I keep positive with these connections

First, I will work toward reducing my health risks
And grow during this time of unrest and change
Next remember that kids and adults alike all over the world
Still smile when a camera is pointed at them, so it’s not all bad
This is not to suggest I should rest
But there is a lot of joy out there
And I should try and connect to it

Faced with the sheer magnitude of the troubles on the planet
And in our communities
It’s good to remind myself that there are now
More than six billion of us that are mostly
Well behaved, kind to each other
Working towards helping each other and
Provide services to one another

What I have in my life is comfort
Tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort doesn't necessarily bring joy
Comfort without joy is not a lot of use
So I will try to create comfort for others
So remember to volunteer
Even if I can't fix their problems, all at once
They need hope and respect too

Do not allow the old politicians
To bully me, nor make me feel ashamed and stupid
Remember they want me to slowly lose interest and turn myopic
Always maintain a cheerful frame of mind
Optimism enables a tea-kettle to sing while hot water is going up its nose
Do not allow your spirit to fade and
You can’t do this by yourself, involve others

Ask the old politicians  … To please give it up!
Tell me your campaign wasn’t a farce
Tell me my vote mattered
Tell me we are going to change things
Tell me I can help
Tell me you believe in communication and open government
Tell me you will listen to the facts and do the right thing
That you will put your personal differences aside
Adapt and change

Don't tell us there is no hope
Don't tell us only you know what is wrong and how to fix it
Don't tell us that, only you know what is best and
To withhold our suggestions and follow you blindly
And that procrastination is good

Just acknowledge that I am doing my best, as we all are.
And if that is not good enough to make our city better
Then maybe
We need more adept doomsayers

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

I will be writing a blog for our new Suisun City Patch website in the hopes of bringing optimism and suggestions on making Suisun a better city.

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
