UPDATE ON THE WALMART CONSTRUCTION SITE.

Yesterday, April 15, 2013, I spoke to Mr. Darett Smith, the project manager for the Eleven Western Builders, Inc., who are located in Rocklin, CA for the Suisun City WalMart construction project.

I asked him what the target date was for this new building. He told me that they are taking over from a firm that did some work earlier on the drainage problems. You can see some risers and some bunker-looking mounds across the site that have been there for quite some time.

The water table, the wet lands, and many other factors have been of primary concern to bring this new building up to environmental codes.  These are essential before construction can begin.

In addition, there are going to be changes in Walters Road and Peterson Road intersection traffic lanes and lights. It will be a busy place once the new store is in operation 24/7.

Mr. Smith estimates that once the groundwork is completed, the foundation can begin and hopefully within 10 months after that, the store will be in operation.

It has been a long time getting WalMart in Suisun City, and it is a much-needed addition to our community. There will be goods and service readily available 24/7 and we will not have to drive to Fairfield to a major store locally. That location is always busy and their parking lot is full around the clock.

In addition, WalMart will create new jobs for our city and that is what we need to bolster our economy and take advantage of the taxes that will be generated for Suisun City.

I think too that competition is good for this city and the other local merchants will have to adjust their prices accordingly.

You can see the construction trailer from Highway 12 and Walters Road, the first sign of progress in a very long time for this long-overdue major business.

I asked Mr. Smith to keep me posted on this project, and before too long, we should be able to see the construction begin.

David Casey
