More Delay in Main Street Construction

Road work is set to resume for a future date once again, but not because of the weather

Construction on Main Street is set to resume once more with a new date to continue work on the road. With the latest temperatures in Suisun City being unseasonably low for this time of year and recent rain, however, you might think that weather was the only thing keeping roadwork from being complete.

“The weather’s not so much of an issue as, now, the event season and working around the events and what not, and making sure that we don’t have the street ripped up during some of our major upcoming events,” said Scott Corey, spokesman for Suisun City.

Corey said the main work needing to be completed at this time is the repaving of the street.

“Right now they want to get some concrete work done,” said Corey. "They have some concrete work they need to redo until it’s done correctly. We’re trying to work the major street surface work around other scheduled activities around the waterfront.”

Low temperatures were a bigger factor, previously. The temperature needed to stay above 55 degrees at night for the new asphalt to be able to dry properly. Corey said he was not sure if the recent rain was a factor at all in the present delays. New work is expected to take place after Independence Day weekend.

“We expect the asphalt work on Main Street to begin on July 5, pending a formal schedule from the contractor,” said Corey.
