Rain, Rain and (Maybe) More Rain For Solano On the Way

Weather forecasters say Solano in for a soaking

Those aren’t raindrops falling, they’re curveballs.

Weather forecasters have been watching with curiosity this winter as what is supposed to be a textbook La Nina pattern has gone weird, drying out in the Bay Area, when typically under La Nina the region gets a good, off and on, average amount of rain.

This time the rain is coming in successive waves over the next few days, after weeks of good weather said Bob Smerbeck, an Accuweather meteorologist.

Mostly, La Nina winters are only dry in Southern California with the far northern California counties getting rain in buckets.

Instead, Thursday was wet and cold in Solano County, with more rain predicted on the way.

“Over the past three hours we’ve picked up an inch of rain,” Smerbeck said Thursday, explaining the jet stream is diving down from the Gulf of Alaska and eastward into California.

“Sometimes things don’t work out on average with the weather, there’s a little curveball here and a curveball there,” he said.

With showers predicted tonight and tomorrow, Sunday will get a break between systems, he said, before Monday becomes wet again and parts of next week will see rain as well.

Monday’s rain may miss Solano County, however.

“That one has the potential here, it may stay near the coast and head southward,” Smerbeck said, adding another storm will hit Wednesday or Thursday of next week.
