Salvation Army Seeking Donations To Meet Community Needs
As the economy limps along, more and more people are turning to the charity organization
The Salvation Army is seeing more and more people needing its services this year, even as the recession continues to impact the amount of money its receives in donations.
Holiday donation drives in 2010 were roughly the same as what the charity organization received in 2009, but the need continues to grow as the economy continues to limp along.
Stefanie Vrapi, spokeswoman for the Solano division of the Salvation Army, said the organization is afraid it won’t be able to handle all the people who will need its services come this summer, when schools let out and federal free lunch programs no longer apply for needy children.

"When it becomes spring and summer time when the kids are out of school that’s went things become grim for us,” she said.
Although local residents won’t be seeing bell ringers with red kettles at their local markets, Vrapi said it doesn’t mean the Salvation Army is not fundraising.

“We’re continuing to do our fundraising so that we can ensure that throughout the year we can serve the people who need us,” she said. “We need (donations) more than ever before, really, because of the increase in need we're seeing. It’s just important for people to realize that we work throughout the year.”

· 620 utility bills paid in part or in full
