Lake Solano Guided Nature Walk

Join a free, guided nature walk at Lake Solano Park on Saturday, September 14th from 10am to noon. It's sure to be a fun and educational experience for all ages!

Lake Solano volunteers Linda Matlock and Kitty Van Newkoop will lead this two hour, easy paced tour. Follow in the footsteps of those who have walked along this trail in years gone by. Discover, through a reading of the poem, "Ode to Putah Creek", (by Kitty Van Newkoop) that the Patwin Indians lived by Putah Creek. Hear how Putah Creek was transformed into Lake Solano, bringing precious water to farmers and residents of Solano County. Learn about the native plants and trees, and some of their medicinal secrets, passed down through the generations by Native Americans. Help us spot Great Blue Herons, Snowy Egrets, Peacocks or other wildlife on the tour. Your guides will also show you what the resident beavers have been up to!

Lake Solano Park and Campground is located at 8685 Pleasants Valley Road, just off Highway 128 near the town of Winters. Meet Linda and Kitty at 10am in front of the Nature Center, at the west entrance of the Park. Their presentation is free, and parking is only $5. per vehicle, payable at the east entrance of the Park, on the other side of Pleasants Valley Road. No RSVP is necessary. For questions in advance, call Kitty at 707-557-9308. For same day information, call 530-795-2990.

This tour is a great opportunity to have fun, learn, and get fresh air and exercise. Be prepared for variable weather and trail conditions by bringing water, wearing sturdy, closed-toe shoes, and dressing in layers. A camera, binoculars and snacks are also recommended. Continue to enjoy the beautiful scenery and wildlife at Lake Solano Park & Campground by picnicking, or renting a campsite for the weekend on a first-come, first-served basis.
