Things to Do This Weekend

Plays, wine walks and candy dominate events

Having trouble deciding what to do this weekend? Maybe we can help. There are several events going on in Solano County ranging from a Candy Festival to a wine walk.

Today and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 ,p.m. be sure to check out the 2012 California Candy Festival at the Jelly Belly Factory, at One Jelly Belly Lane in Fairfield. Featured at the event will be two of the original “Willy Wonka” movie stars, Paris Themmen, who played Mike Tee Vee and Julie Dawn Cole, who played Veruca Salt. Today you might also want to take a stroll during the Wine Walk on First Street starting at 1 p.m. in Benicia. Many different wines will be poured inside participating downtown shops. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the event and can be purchased at Benicia Main Street, 90 First Street, or online at www.beniciamainstreet.org.

Also today, you may wish to check out West Village at Grillin' n' Chillin, fat 10 a.m. at Women's Improvement Park, 230 N. First Street in Dixon. Enjoy vegetables or load up on some whole-wheat, locally-grown flour, or stock up on some cage-free, free-range, and rooster-free eggs. The event is free.

On Sunday, you can check out the Marvelous Wonderettes, at the 6 p.m. at the Downtown Theatre at 1035 Texas Street in Fairfield. The Marvelous Wonderettes takes you to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where we meet the Wonderettes, four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! As we learn about their lives and loves, we are treated to the girls performing classic ‘50s and ‘60s songs. Cost is $25. For box office and info call 707-940-0700.
