Presidential Dreams: 'If I Were President'

Recently, we caught up with a class of fifth graders at Nelda Mundy Elementary School in Fairfield, and asked them what they would do if they were elected President.

You may be surprised to find that they weren't interested in free candy for the masses or even extra recess at school.  Topping the list of concerns were higher taxes for the wealthy, more funding for schools and a specially mandated holiday in order to watch the World Series.

If I were president I would create new technology to help people from being poor. For example, a machine that creates money that’s just enough to give them a head start. -- Kealli, 9

 

If I were president I would make chocolate a vegetable. -- Sergio, 11

If I were president, I’d raise taxes on the rich because they show off. Also, I’d give the schools 1,000 dollars each, for more school field trips. -- Caleb, 10

If I were President, I would create better schools and create less pollution. I would also create a lower tax rate and create a better economy for American citizens and middle-class Americans. -- Elizabeth, 10

If I were president I would ban school. Who invented this thing anyway? The dumbest idea ever. And I’m surprised that after all these presidents, not one has thought about banning school. What the heck? --Zaddock, 10.
