3 Tips Suisun City Police Want You To Read Before Christmas

Police have tips for keeping your home and car safe during the holidays.

Police issued three warnings to residents this week on its community warning website, www.nixle.com.

#1: As the Christmas holiday approaches, home burglaries increase. Burglars operate typically by knocking on front doors to see if anyone is home during the day.

“If, however, someone answers, the burglars simply give plausible explanation,” Police said on www.nixle.com. “With no answer, burglars force entry most often to the side garage door.”

Police said they recommend talking with neighbors so everyone on the street knows who is supposed to be on the street and who is not.

#2: Police are concerned about the way some home alarm companies’ first call has been to homeowners and not to police, causing delays in police response, in addition to simple delays in which the alarm companies took more time than police think they should have to call police.

“The obvious problem with delayed calls is that the burglars were afforded time to escape,” the alert said.

When alarm companies called the homeowner first, sometimes police would arrive on scene “in a tactical manner” and find family members at the scene, without knowing who might have been a burglar and who might have been a family member.

#3: Police are also seeing a troubling trend with vehicle burglaries, where vehicle owners will leave valuable items in plain view in their car.

“Burglars canvass neighborhoods day and night and casually glance into vehicles,” police said on www.nixle.com.

If given the right opportunity, police say it takes the burglars only seconds to break into a car and steal what they want.

In each of these circumstances, police urge residents to call police immediately if they see something suspicious.
