Assault Rifle Seized in Vallejo after Foot Chase

Cole Martin fled on foot and was apprehended by SET deputies after a short foot chase.

Patch has learned that Solano County deputies found an SKS assault rifle while conducting a warrant in Vallejo on Monday. The search took place on the 700 block of Virginia Street.

Here's more from the Solano County Sheriff's Office:

The arrest warrant was for Cole Martin, a 28 year old Vallejo resident. Martin was wanted for being in violation of his conditions of post-release supervision. Cole fled on foot and was apprehended by SET deputies after a short foot chase. During a search after the arrest, SET deputies recovered a SKS assault rifle and ammunition. Martin was booked into the Solano County Jail for being a felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, resisting arrest and the arrest warrant.

PRCS subjects are supervised by the Solano County Probation Department as a result of AB109, better known in criminal justice circles as Realignment. The law, which transfers the responsibility of monitoring, rehabilitating and incarcerating certain non-violent, non-serious offenders from the State to the Counties, has affected every facet of law enforcement throughout the state. When a state prisoner is granted parole for a crime that is a non-violent, non-sexual and non-serious offense (non-non-non), they are placed on community supervision in the county in which they were convicted.

Your 'dream' is never going to happen. The cat is out of the bag. There is no way to get rid of all the guns. If you enact laws to ban them only law abiding citizens will obey the laws and then you will have criminals with ALL the guns and citizens left defenseless.

Owning guns by law abiding citizens is not the problem. The problem is the criminals and misfits who obtain them. There would be plenty of room in the prisons if we go rid of luxuries in the prisons and made them do some real hard time. This creep should be sentence to about 15 years in Sheriff Joe's jain in Phoenix.

Nothing is going to absolutely positively stop a maniac from killing people (with or without a gun). But most gun deaths are not by maniacs or as part of mass killings. We need basic gun control. Registration, background checks, waiting period, no loop holes. Also no military weapons, no military ammunition, no large clips -- only what you would need for hunting or for defense. Maybe also require training and certification. Maybe also insurance (we have to have it for cars, so why not for guns?). It is possible to reduce the number of guns greatly. Buy back programs work. We need to stop glorifying guns. Stop making kids feel like they need to have a gun to be a "man". A change of attitude would help greatly. Question the gun-manufacturers-supported NRA propaganda.

I think a few minor changes in gun laws, would be the most effective way of dealing with "gun control" laws. Require that firearms may ONLY be possessed by individuals that have received basic firearm's safety education and certification. Possession without certification = 1 FULL year in Jail. (This certification should run less then $50 and renewal of certification should be required not less then every 5 years) Anyone found to be in possession of a firearm, without the registered owners consent = 2 FULL years in jail. (No early release etc..) Same thing, while committing an additional crime = 5 FULL years in Prison. If your found in possession of a firearm that has had the serial number removed, or has been reported stolen = 10 years in prison (no early release) Anyone in possession of a weapon that has been modified to a fully automatic weapon = 20 Full years in Prison. Any minor that is found in possession of a firearm = 1 full year (juvi or ???) And there are many other situations that should present penalties that are comparable to these. It would take a few years, but as soon as people realize that possessing a firearm illegally - is no longer a slap on the wrist - - - - things WOULD CHANGE. 50% wouldn't take the risk - and the other 50% would be incarcerated!!!
