Cause Of Death Determined For Man Shot By Police

The Solano County Coroner releases Information on man killed in officer-involved shooting

A coroner report of the man shot by police last Wednesday shows the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest. A toxicology report of the 55-year-old man, identified as Bernardo Ararao, will also be conducted and released within the next couple of weeks.

“That may be a factor of what the person had in their system at the time, but the actual cause of death is a gunshot wound to the chest,” said Lt. Gary Faulkner, Solano County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

In a press conference following the shooting, Cmdr. Tim Mattos stated the received a call from the at 11:25 a.m. on June 29 to inform them an armed man had entered the center dressed in camoflage, stating he was “on assignment.” While en route, they received information the man had left the senior facility.

Police arrived in the area and found Ararao across the street from the senior center, near the Post Office parking lot drop boxes. Shortly after arriving, the officers found Ararao to be an “an immediate threat to themselves and the community and shots were fired.”

Mattos said an investigation would be conducted in following of the violent and fatal officer shooting protocol. The Suisun City police will be working with the Solano County District Attorney’s office for a examination of what happened.
