Coroner Office IDs Murder Victim

Clarence James, 47, was fatally shot in Fairfield on Monday evening.

The Solano County coroner's office has identified a man who was fatally shot in Fairfield on Monday evening as 47-year-old Clarence James.

James, a Fairfield resident, was shot multiple times as he stood in front of a home in the 1100 block of Hayes Street around 8:40 p.m.

He was able to give police a brief description of the suspect but said he did not know who the gunman was or why he had been shot, Fairfield police Officer Cleo Mayoral said.

James was taken to John Muir Medical Center, where he died.

Witnesses at the scene told police that a man wearing dark clothing was seen running from the scene.

There have been three homicides in Fairfield since March 7.
