District Attorney To Hold Youth Summit In Fairfield

County DA Donald du Bain is following through on his swearing in ceremony pledge

Solano County District Attorney Donald du Bain said Tuesday his office will team up with other law enforcement agencies, the county superintendent of schools and the commander of the 60th Security Forces Squadron to hold a youth summit in Fairfield on May 11.

The summit will focus on reducing long-term crime by clamping down on truancy.

“Truancy threatens the safety of our communities and deserves our commitment in the law enforcement community to address its causes and find meaningful solutions,” du Bain said in a press release. “The youth summit represents a fresh start by my office and all of our law enforcement partners in Solano County to meet this challenge.”

All eight city police chiefs will be participating in the summit, as well as the county sheriff and the CHP. Participants will include judges from the Solano County Superior Court and Juvenile Court, directors of county agencies like the probation department and the public defender. All superintendents of school districts in the county will participate as well.

Du Bain said community nonprofits who serve youth will be invited to participate, as well as local students.

“Research studies, as well as the real-world experience of our law enforcement officers, have shown a clear correlation between crime and truancy,” du Bain said in a press release. “High school dropouts are eight times more likely to end up in jail or prison than high school graduates, resulting in a nationwide prison population composed of 68 percent high school dropouts.”

The summit will take place at the Fairfield Community Center, Willow Hall, 1000 Kentucky Street in Fairfield.
