The vegetation fire was reported at 3:39 p.m. on Marigold Drive near Interstate Highway 80, according to Fairfield fire officials.
The fire has spread and five homes have been engulfed in flames,
police spokesman Officer Cleo Mayoral said.

Residents in between the 2800 and 3000 blocks of Marigold Drive have been ordered to evacuate and streets have been closed. The 3000 block of North Texas Street has also been evacuated and shut down, Mayoral said.

He said as of 4:45 p.m., many other homes were threatened by the flames.

The fire has forced the closure of two lanes of eastbound Highway 80, according to the California Highway Patrol.
