Fairfield Fire Not A Hindrance To American Cancer Society

The Empire Street Fire last weekend destroyed the offices of the American Cancer Society, among other nonprofits located at 744 Empire Street.

The 744 Empire Street fire destroyed offices of a few nonprofits, including the American Cancer Society's Fairfield office.

As of Monday night, the cause of the fire was still under investigation, but the Cancer Society was in the beginning stages of their process of moving on.

"We're still trying to figure out what's covered and what's not," said Maria Robinson, a spokeswoman.

The Fairfield office housed a store of wigs, hats, turbans and other headgear for cancer victims undergoing treatments, according to the American Cancer Society website.

Robinson said people living with cancer or those who had questions for the American Cancer Society could still find help through a toll free number: 1-800-227-2345

Otherwise they could find help on the society's website, www.cancer.org.

"Although our office is no longer there people can still find help with us," Robinson said.

For folks wanting to help the society replace its lost stockpile of headgear, Robinson said it would be best to make monetary donations to the society through its toll free number or the website.
