Fairfield Man Found Dead in Home of Apparent Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

A man killed from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on Monday night was found inside a home where more than 50 shots were fired earlier in the day, police said.

Officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired in the 4900 block of Springwood Circle near Cordelia Community Park around 1:05 p.m., according to police. More shots were heard when police arrived, officers said.

A perimeter was set up and a SWAT team and crisis negotiating team were called to the scene in an effort to make contact with anyone in the home, police said. At about 8:40 p.m., the SWAT team entered the home and encountered three dogs, Sgt. Jeff Osgood said.

SWAT officers tried to subdue an aggressive dog with a Taser but the animal overcame the shock. Officers then shot the dog that was pronounced dead at the scene, Osgood said. The other two dogs were secured and handed off to family members, he said.

As officers continued to search the home they went upstairs and discovered an adult male deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Osgood.

No one else was found inside the home and no other injuries were reported, he said. Two homes - one across the street and another next door - sustained significant damage from gunshots fired from the home in question, Osgood said.

Vehicles in the area were also struck by gunfire, according to police. The area of Springwood Circle, Summer Grove Drive and Northwood Drive was closed to all traffic while police were at the scene, police said.

Residents in the area were asked to shelter in place during the incident and able to return to their homes on Monday evening, according to police.

The Solano County Sheriff's Office and a California Highway Patrol helicopter also assisted with security at the scene, police said.
