Fairfield Police Arrest Five For Giving Booze To Minors

Police used youth decoys in a sting to catch people who might give alcohol to minors.

Fairfield Police conducted several sting operations outside five city businesses that have licenses to sell alcohol, resulting in the arrest of five Fairfield residents for agreeing to purchase alcohol for minors.

Threasa Powell, 40, and William Standford, 60, were booked into the county jail. Powell ws found to have drug paraphernalis in her possession and had an outstanding warrant. Standford was boked on conspiracy charges.

Three others were cited and released, including James Brown, 69; David Akinaga, 42; and Susan O'Brien, 59.

Police used 16-year-old decoys to contact pople going in to the businesses, asking for alcohol to be bought for them. Officers contacted 24 persons during the course of the investigation.

"This investigation program is intended to reduce the availability of alcohol to minors. Statistics show they generally have a higher rate of drunken driving crashes than adults," according to Fairfield police. "Studies also show the combination of alcohol and youth tends to increase criminal conduct."

This project is part of the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control's Minor Decoy / Shoulder Tap Grant Project, funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
