Fairfield Prostitution Crackdown Nets 36 Arrests

Officers contacted the suspected prostitutes and johns through known prostitution advertising websites.

Fairfield police arrested dozens of people over the holiday weekend on suspicion of engaging in prostitution. 

The operation, carried out over the weekend leading up to New Year's Day, targeted both prostitutes and prospective clients, police said.

Officers contacted the suspected prostitutes and johns through known prostitution advertising websites.  

They netted 36 arrests for a host of alleged crimes including solicitation of prostitution, weapons possession, pimping, loitering or assisting in prostitution, furnishing controlled substances and parole and probation violations.

Police pointed out that prostitution is often linked to other types of crime, such as violent robberies, assaults and drug sales.
