Fairfield: Travis Street Shut Down After Pipe Bomb Was Discovered In Home

Fairfield Police and Yolo County Bomb Squad respond to call of homemade pipe bomb

A pipe bomb was found in a Fairfield home when a family member was
cleaning the house Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Around 5 p.m. the family member picked up the homemade pipe bomb
to put outside when he saw a passing Fairfield fire truck in the 300 block of
Travis Boulevard. He waved down the truck, police said.
Firefighters requested police respond and the device was left
outside the house, next to the sidewalk. Travis Boulevard was shut down in
both directions and a CVS/pharmacy store across the street was evacuated,
police said.
The Yolo County Bomb Squad responded and rendered the device safe.
They also conducted a protective sweep of the house to make sure there were
no other explosive devices, police said.
Family members told police they had found a similar device Monday
while cleaning the house. A family member had unscrewed that device and
emptied the contents into a trashcan.
