Fan, Police Officer Pepper Sprayed At 49ers game

A police officer and a female fan accidentally get pepper sprayed at a 49ers game.

San Francisco police say pepper spray used on a violent suspect at tonight's San Francisco 49ers game struck a police officer and an uninvolved female fan.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m. during the NFC Championship game against the New York Giants when a male fan in the upper level of Candlestick Park allegedly assaulted two police officers, according to Sgt. Michael Andraychak.

The affected officer and the fan both had their eyes flushed out and recovered.

Police did not have details on the number of arrests at the game, which the Giants won 20-17, but Andraychak said there were several on charges including public intoxication, misdemeanor battery and resisting arrest. He called the number of calls for service "typical for a game."

One pedestrian also suffered a minor injury in the parking lot after the game when a vehicle drove over his foot.
