Firefighters Association Looks To Give Toy Drive A Boost

The members will be in front of Rite Aid virtually all weekend to collect toys for Suisun City youth

This weekend, the Suisun City Firefighters Association is rallying to get donations for their annual toy drive. The drive, which has been going on for almost 60 years, will collect toys for children just in time for Christmas in front of .

Members of the association will be in front of Rite Aid this Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. collecting new, unwrapped toys and monetary donations.

"We’ll have tables set up requesting toy donations,” said Tom Kamin, president. “It’s really the only retailer in the city of Suisun, currently, that sells children’s toys. So that’s why we kind of focused on there, and the management was most gracious to allow us to do that there.”

This year Kamin said the association plans to help make a special Christmas for 460 children within Suisun City. The number seems to climb higher and higher each year, to the point where the association has to start turning requests away, he said.

Toys donated should typically be for children from infancy to 12 years old. Due to the large number of requests, the association cannot accommodate
special requests, but gifts should be new and do not need to be wrapped. Those that miss the cutoff date, but would still like to donate will help the association get a head start on next year.

“We can always use toys,” Kamin said. “We collect them year round and then give them out once a year.”

On Wednesday, December 22, the list of toys and recipients will be divided between volunteers as they visit each home to give out the toys.
