How Big Is A Big Quake To You? And What Was the Worst Quake You've Been Through?
Many East Coast folks were in a panic over a 5.8 earthquake near Washington, D.C. While that may be understandable for people who have never experienced and earthquake before, how big is big in your opinion?
I'll admit it, I smirked.
The news that some folks on the East Coast freaked out over a struck me as unwarranted. Then I thought about it, and it seemed more approporiate for a region that simply does not experience these types of events. Add to that all the brick around, and I'd rather face a 5.8 quake here in California. I imagine if a Category 2 hurricane hit the Bay Area, I'd be worried in a way Floridians might consider silly, too.
But it made me wonder: How jaded are we in earthquake-prone California? How big does the magnitude have to be to be big in your opinion? And what was the biggest earthquake you've been in?
