Huge Marijuana Bust in Fairfield Worth $450,000

A wide-open front door and a loose dog at a Fairfield home prompted a concerned neighbor to call police, but instead of the home's occupant or signs of a burglary, authorities found a large indoor marijuana grow operation on Tuesday.

Detectives seized 580 marijuana plants -- that police said would yield approximately 150 lbs of processed marijuana worth about $450,000 -- from the home in the 4100 block of Canyon Creek Court, police said Thursday.

When a neighbor noticed the front door of the two-story home was ajar and that a dog that appeared to belong to the home was roaming outside, the neighbor called police at 8:30 p.m. to request a security check.

Responding officers attempted to make contact by calling out and placing calls to the home's phone, but there was no response. Officers stepped inside to determine if a burglary had occurred, police said, and discovered the plants ranging in size up to 4 feet tall.

More than 35 large 500-watt indoor grow lights were seized along with several pieces of marijuana manufacturing equipment, according to police.

Detectives suspect that the home was also stealing power. Police said the investigation is ongoing and that no suspects had been arrested. Anyone with information is asked to contact Fairfield police at (707) 428-7300.
