Illegal Fireworks Displays Went Unchecked, Fire Chief Says

With thousands at the waterfront during the main show, public safety officials didn't have enough staff to deal with illegal firework shows, Chief tells City Council.

Downtown Suisun City didn’t have the only fireworks show going on in town July 4th.

On Tuesday, Fire Chief Mike O’Brien told the City Council why public safety officials couldn’t stop a few other near-downtown private fireworks displays that seemed to be competing with the main show. All fireworks are banned in Suisun City.

O’Brien said every available cop and firefighter in the area was focused on keeping the thousands of waterfront partiers safe while the main show was ongoing, with no one available to peel away and stop the illegal fireworks shows.
