Man Shot In Newspaper Delivery Vehicle Now Dead

An attempted murder investigation is now a homicide investigation.

A 40-year-old Suisun man who was shot late Wednesday night is dead, Suisun City police said this evening.

Police believe Gadiel Nunez, the shooting victim, was a passenger in a vehicle that was delivering newspapers in the 800 block of Cackling Drive.

It's believed shots were fired into the delivery vehicle from 819 Cackling Drive where several people were congregating at the time of the shooting, police said in a news release.

Nunez showed up with a gunshot wound around 11:50 p.m. Wednesday at a city fire station at 621 Pintail Drive and was taken to a trauma center, police said, where he later died.

Police questioned 27-year-old Daniel Jimenez Diaz at his residence in the 1300 block of Hammond Drive in Suisun City. He was released pending follow-up investigation and forensic evidence testing, police said.

Investigators have found no connection between the victim and the people in front of the Cackling Drive residence, police said.

There were reports of a possible drive-by shooting in the immediate area just before shots were fired into the newspaper delivery vehicle, police said.

Detectives have not ruled out the possibility the shooting suspect believed a second drive-by shooting was about to occur, police said.

Selena, although I am so sorry that you have this story in the first place, I am grateful that you have shared it. You have honored your father in the most profound way by making him so “real” to all of us and not just a tragic headline. Selena, I promise there are many good people out there and they are sending prayers your way-always. And thank you for the blessings and for the blessing that you are.

Alan thank you for caring for Gadiel Nunez’s little princess, Selena. I am sure it gives her some comfort in knowing that you too just don’t want her beloved father to be just a headline. Alan, you sound like a wonderful father, just like hers was, so keep her in your prayers and thoughts, honor and help this man by doing that.

Alan thank you so much for that. Yes it helped a bit. The police call us once in a while with some facts. The last time they called us,they told us they are waiting for bullet fragments and then if the bullet match Daniel's friend gun then they would make arrests. But other than that they will not arrest him because they want total proof that he was the one that shot my father. And Ryan I would tell you whatever you need to know.
