Man Arrested For 2002 Murder Of Fairfield Man

Duron Warren, 35, was arrested in Rodeo on Friday on suspicion of murdering 33-year-old Lennie Ray Thompson, of Fairfield.

Contra Costa County sheriff's deputies have arrested a man wanted for a 2002 Rodeo murder after stumbling upon him during a search for a suspect in an unrelated case, according to the sheriff's office.

Duron Warren, 35, was arrested in Rodeo on Friday on suspicion of murdering 33-year-old Lennie Ray Thompson, of Fairfield, sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said.

Thompson was shot and found lying in the road near Mariposa and California streets in Rodeo early the morning of Sept. 3, 2002, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

In 2010, investigators found evidence that led them to identify Warren as the murder suspect, Lee said.

The sheriff's office obtained a warrant for his arrest, but deputies had been unable to locate Warren.

During an unrelated search of another suspect's Rodeo home at about 6:15 p.m. Friday, deputies encountered a man who they realized was Warren.

He was arrested and taken to county jail in Martinez, where he is being held on $1 million bail.
