CHP Officer, Fairfield Resident Kenyon Youngstrom Fighting for Life After I-680 Shooting

The street where CHP officer Kenyon Armstrong resides in the Cordelia neigborhood of Fairfield, Calif., is quiet tonight, several hours after he was shot while conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 680 in Contra Costa County Tuesday morning.

A fellow CHP patrol car is standing guard in front of the home, which is less than a mile away from Interstate 680. Youngstrom remains in critical condition at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, according to Paul Fontana, acting chief of the Golden Gate Division of the California Highway Patrol.

Fontana provided the update at 9:30 p.m., about 13 hours after Youngstrom was wounded in a shootout on Interstate 680 near Alamo.

He said Youngstrom, a seven-year veteran of the CHP, previously served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Fontana said Youngstrom's family has been touched by the outpouring of support they have received since the shooting.
