One Arrest At Fairfield DUI Checkpoint

The next DUI checkpoint is scheduled for May 18th.

Information from Fairfield Police Department:

The Fairfield Police Department conducted a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint on May 4, 2012, from 9:30 PM to 1:45 AM, as part of Fairfield's commitment to traffic safety.  This checkpoint was one of many that have been or will be conducted throughout the year in the City of Fairfield.  The location of May 4th's checkpoint was on the 1400 Block of West Texas Street.

DUI Checkpoints along with regularly scheduled high visibility DUI enforcement serves as a proven deterrent with the goal of removing alcohol and drugged impaired drivers and heightening awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence.

  • 205 Vehicles screened
  • 1 DUI alcohol involved suspects arrested
  • 0 DUI drug impaired suspects arrested
  • 0 Suspects arrested for illegal drugs (possession/transportation/sales)
  • 4 Unlicensed and/or suspended/revoked drivers sent to court

"Over the course of the past year, DUI collisions have claimed two lives and resulted in 25 injury crashes harming 38 of our friends and neighbors," said Traffic Unit Supervisor Sergeant Matt Bloesch. "If everyone planed ahead for a sober non-drinking designated drivers these numbers could be lowered to ZERO."

Those arrested and convicted for DUI can expect jail time, vehicle storage or impound fees, license suspension, fines, fees, DUI classes, insurance rates will increase and other expenses that can push the cost of an arrest to over $10,000; not to mention the embarrassment they'll face around family, friends & co-workers.
