UPDATED: Pedestrian Killed By Train Near Suisun City Border

Coroner's office identifies Fairfield transient as the latest track fatality

Train station workers report a person was struck by a train this morning near the an unknown time. Patch is calling Union Pacific Railroad to find out information, after being referred there by . This story will update as soon as information is available.

This is the second pedestrain vs. train in the city in four days. On April 17, Eduardo Guzman, 36, of Fairfield was struck and killed by a Union Pacific Train near Sunset Avenue in Suisun City at 7:20 a.m.

UPDATE 12:23 p.m.: The Solano County Coroner's office identified the man killed as Daniel Conley, 34, of Fairfield. He was also identified as a transient. The Coroner's office said Fairfield police are handling the investigation. Patch will update as soon as more information is available.

UPDATE 2:46 p.m.: Sgt. Martin Kauffman from the Farifield Police Department said emergency crews were notifed that a pedestrian had been struck by an Amtrak train on the Union Pacific Railroad right of way directly behind the 500 block of Clay Street in Fairfield at 8:18 a.m., near the Suisun City border and a quarter mile northeast from the Suisun City Train Depot.

The incident caused a 45-minute to an hour delay for the Amtrak commuter train. Conley was found dead at the scene. Kauffman said a prelimary investigation revealed he was walking on the tracks with his back to the train. Kauffman also said it was unknown if it was a suicide or whether Conley simply did not hear the train.

UPDATE 6:28 p.m.:

Bay City News Service reports: 

Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said train No. 529 left Auburn Station at 6:35 a.m. and was due to arrive at the Oakland-Coliseum/Airport station at 9:45 a.m.

The train, which had 135 passengers aboard, was delayed after the incident for one hour and 40 minutes, Graham said.

A Union Pacific Railroad spokesman said it appeared the man intended to kill himself because he saw the train and lay down on the tracks.
