Police Shoot Rio Vista Woman Suspected of Attempting to Run Them Over

The woman, identified as Elizabeth Colinge, 69, was shot at least two times by officers.

A Rio Vista woman was shot at least twice by police this morning after she allegedly tried to run officers down during a pursuit and attempted traffic stop, officials said Saturday.

Rio Vista police first tried to stop Elizabeth Collinge, 69, around 12:40 a.m. Saturday after she allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at Second Street and Main Street, according to Solano County Sheriff's Lt. Gary Faulkner.

Collinge initially stopped, then allegedly backed her pickup truck into the marked police car behind her, Faulkner said. She then allegedly sped away west on Montezuma Hills Road, triggering a pursuit involving Rio Vista police and the Solano County Sheriff's Office.

Collinge stopped in the Collinsville Day Use Area parking lot off Collinsville Road and exited her truck, but then got back in and allegedly attempted to drive  through a marked Sheriff's patrol car and Rio Vista police car blocking her path.

Officers ran for safety and opened fire, Faulkner said. Collinge drove into a dirt embankment a short distance later and was taken into custody. She appears to have suffered at least two gunshot wounds and was taken to John Muir Medical Center for treatment, but was released and arrested a few hours later.
