Update: Cordelia Firefighters Extinguish Small Roadside Grass Fire, Smoker is to Blame

Cigarettes were found at the scene of the fire that erupted along Highway 680 at the Parish Road on-ramp.

A smoker is being blamed for a fire that erupted in the vegetation along Highway 680 at Parish Road this afternoon.

The Cordelia Fire Department said that cigarette butts were found at the scene of the fire. The department was aided by Benicia firefighters to combat the flames that burned about a quarter acre of brush.

The amount of vegetation that has grown on that stretch of the highway provided ample fuel for the flames, according to the fire department.
