Seven Ways To Keep A Burglar Away

A spate of burglaries in Suisun City make it high time for some advice about securing your home

Suisun City Police recently released the streets where home and vehicle burglaries have taken place in the last couple weeks:

700 Block of Capistrano Drive
700 Block of Chula Vista Way
1100 Block of Swallow Lane
1700 Block of Ventura Way

  1. Leave lights on when you go out for the night, and maybe leave a radio or a television on to make it seem like someone’s home.
  2. If you’re going to be away for a long length of time, be sure to connect some lamps to automatic timers that go on about dusk and turn off at bedtime.
  3. Don’t allow newspaper or advertising circulars to build up on your driveway while you’re gone. Put a vacation hold on newspaper deliveries and have neighbors or friends pick up any advertising circulars.
  4. Lower the sound of your telephone ringer so it can’t be heard from the outside.
  5. Make sure you have deadbolt locks on all exterior entrances, and have secured patio doors with a pin lock or dowel rod.
  6. Consult a locksmith to find out the most secure lock for your front door. In the past, Suisun City burglars have kicked in the front doors of homes they’ve targeted in broad daylight when the owners are away.
  7. More powerful than a lock is someone looking out for your neighborhood. Consider forming or joining a neighborhood watch. Call Pam Greenwood at Suisun City Police at 421-7373 to get more information about setting up a neighborhood watch.
